Supersize your Caffeine

Although I would rather you get your morning kick from something other than caffeine, the fact of the matter is that many of you rely on caffeine to wake you up and keep you going. Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system, alleviating fatigue and increasing wakefulness.

According to Mayo Clinic staff, two to four cups of brewed coffee a day aren't harmful for most people which usually contains caffeine — 200 to 300 milligrams (mg). Heavy daily caffeine use can cause insomnia, nervousness, restlessness, irritability, nausea or other gastrointestinal problems, fast or irregular heartbeat, muscle tremors and headaches. (Mayo Clinic, 2009). The question is how much is heavy? Just as personalities vary from one person to the next, so does people’s sensitivity to caffeine.

Just think how much you’ll be saving without a daily dose of the new 31 ounce size of Starbucks iced coffee. According to the Early Show today the Trenta size is equivalent to drinking 2 red bulls (200 mg of caffeine). Not only will you save your health, at a rate of $3.45 a day, you could save $1,259.25 by year’s end. I can sure think of a few things I could do with that cash!
