To Carb or Not To Carb

Although the genes that you are born with play a major role in how much fat your body stores and how much fat your body burns, the food you eat it just as important. You can't change what your parents gave you but you can control what goes in your mouth!

It boils down to refines carbs which cause more insulin to circulate in your body. There is a direct correlation between the amount of insulin secreted in the body and the amount of calories stored as fat, which lead to a fatter you.

End dieting woes by choosing the right carbs, like leafy greens. The goal is to prevent blood sugar spikes. The carbs found in vegetables like spinach contain indigestible fiber which take longer to digest , thereby taking longer to enter the bloodstream - look ma no blood sugar spike!

I like the simple substitutions listed in the February 2011 issue of Prevention Magazine:
Instead of MASHED POTATOES try MASHED CAULIFLOWER
Instead of ORANGE JUICE try A WHOLE ORANGE
Instead of POTATO CHIPS try PEANUTS
Instead of PIZZA CRUST try PORTOBELLO MUSHROOMS
